Current district and regional plan rules

Current plan rules

Planning rules for Auckland used to be in separate district and regional plans. In 2016 we combined the district plans and regional plans into one unitary plan, except for the district plan for the Hauraki Gulf islands.

The Auckland Unitary Plan has the latest district and regional plan rules and regional policy statement. Hauraki Gulf Islands district plan rules remain in a separate plan.

Finding the latest district and regional plan rules

The unitary plan must clearly show which rules are district or regional plan rules. This requirement is set out in section 80 of the Resource Management Act 1991.

In the plan, each rule is marked with:

  • [rp] – for regional plan rules
  • [rcp] – for regional coastal plan rules
  • [dp] – for district plan rules.

The plan also has a clearly labelled section for the regional policy statement.
