Structure plans

Structure plans are a method of guiding future urbanisation, and development, within a defined area.

A structure plan is an appropriate foundation for the plan change process required to rezone land under the Auckland Unitary Plan.

Purpose of structure plans

The purpose of a structure plan is to establish land use and infrastructure networks and identify the potential effects of urbanisation.

Structure plans may identify, investigate, and address matters related to:

  • Supply of urban land to meet the growth projects in the Auckland Plan
  • Any natural and physical features within the defined area
  • Types of land use and activity
  • The layout of transport networks and facilities
  • The location and type of infrastructure that is to be provided.
