Rates Remission and Postponement Policy
Our Rates Remission and Postponement Policy addresses financial assistance and support for ratepayers, as well as anomalies and other schemes.
Rates postponement for ratepayers financially impacted by COVID-19
This year we have introduced a Rates postponement for ratepayers impacted by COVID-19. The scheme allows ratepayers struggling financially to defer up to $20,000 of their rates for the 2020/2021 year, and up to $5000 from their May 2020 rates invoice.
At the end of the postponement period ratepayers have until 30 June 2022 to pay their rates (including administration fees and interest).
The objectives of the Rates Remission and Postponement Policy are:
- to provide ratepayers with some financial or other assistance, where they might otherwise have difficulty meeting their obligations
- to address circumstances where the rating system results in anomalies in the incidence of rates
- to support the achievement of our broader policy objectives.
