About the project
Light rail will run from the city centre to Māngere, connecting communities along its route to employment, education and recreation, and to Auckland Airport. There will also be a light rail corridor from the city centre to the northwestern suburbs.
Light rail will support Auckland's growth by adding to an integrated public transport system that also includes heavy rail, ferries, buses and busways.
This programme will allow urban areas along the proposed rail lines to be developed and upgraded.
The Auckland Transport Alignment Project (ATAP) has committed to providing light rail within the next ten years.
The New Zealand Transport Agency is leading the delivery of the Auckland Light Rail programme with its partners Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and HLC.
