Clover Drive, Rānui flood resilience project

This project is part of the Making Space for Water programme and co-funded with central government.

Clover Drive and Camphora Place in Rānui were badly flooded in 2023. Residents were evacuated to safety and many rescues were made.

About the project

The project will:

  • reduce flooding risk for homes and roads
  • improve stormwater flow and make the network more resilient
  • enhance the area by changing the landscape
  • widen streams around the area.

How will we do this

  • Develop and upgrade bridges to increase water flow.
  • Install debris catching structures to prevent blockages.
  • Create greenways and widen streams to direct flood waters away from homes.
  • Increase the capacity of culverts.

What happens next

We will work with the community to make sure:

  • we use local knowledge to help design the project
  • the developments benefit the community.

We will:

  • present the concept design to central government for funding approval
  • ask the community for feedback on the design when we have funding approval
  • apply for resource consents when the design is complete.
