Food scraps collection rollout across urban Auckland

The food scraps collection service is being rolled out in stages across mainland urban Auckland throughout 2023.

It will not be available in rural areas, the Hauraki Gulf islands, or the city centre.

The weekly service is a simple way for households to:

• reduce waste to landfill
• lower greenhouse gas emissions
• improve our environment.

Check online if your property will receive a food scraps bin and sign up for updates on:

• when a food scraps bin has been delivered to your property, 
• when collections are about to start in your area 
• delays to your food scraps service.

What you will receive in your food scraps collection kit

Each residential home within the collection area will receive:

• a green-lidded kerbside food scraps bin (23-litre) – this bin is collected weekly on your council collection day
• a kitchen caddy – a smaller bin to collect food scraps in the kitchen before transferring them to the main food scraps bin outside
• a starter set of compostable bin liners – these fit into your kitchen caddy and help keep your caddy clean and reduce smells
• an information brochure on how to use the food scraps collection service.

Food scraps bin deliveries and collections

Dates are subject to change.

When your bin arrives, it will tell you when your food scraps collection will start. 

You can also check rollout schedule to find out when the service starts for your property and sign up for a reminder.
