Some council services will be unavailable over the Christmas and New Year break.
Check which services are affected.
We are not collecting food scraps (the small 23L bin) in Mt Roskill Zone A (roughly 262 properties) until further notice.
Biosecurity New Zealand has placed restrictions in the area due to the detection of an oriental fruit fly.
Visit Biosecurity New Zealand to check if you are in Zone A or Zone B and how to dispose of fruit and vegetable waste. Other types of food waste (such as meat, cooked meal scraps, dairy products, rice or pasta) can go in your rubbish bin.
Rubbish, recycling and food scraps collections will be one day later than usual after a public holiday, with some exceptions.
Our holiday collection text reminders are no longer available. Use our collection day search to check the collection date for a specific address.
You must put your rubbish out before 7am on your collection day. This includes:
| Your usual collection day | Your new collection day |
|---|---|
| Thursday 25 December 2025 (Christmas Day) | Friday 26 December 2025 |
| Friday 26 December 2025 | Saturday 27 December 2025 |
| Thursday 1 January 2026 (New Year's Day) | Friday 2 January 2026 |
| Friday 2 January 2026 | Saturday 3 January 2026 |
Rubbish collection days are not affected and stay the same.
Contact your rubbish collection provider to ask about their holiday schedules.
There are no changes to roadside collections for rubbish bags, recycling bags, paper and cardboard.
