Our procurement principles

Our procurement policy provides clear information to staff, suppliers, contractors and the community on what's important to us.

Our six procurement principles

Our procurement principles support our shared vision to create better value for money for Aucklanders.

1. Work together

We are committed to making our size work by group sourcing procurement with council-controlled organisations (CCOs) and doing more with less, while creating better value for ratepayers.

2. Value te Ao Māori

It is important that our processes:

  • support and consider our Maori Responsiveness Framework (Te Toa Takatini) in all procurement activity
  • are aligned with The Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti o Waitangi) in both spirit and form.

3. Be sustainable

During our procurement processes, we consider opportunities for positive social, community, economic, environmental and cultural outcomes to benefit current and future generations.

4. Act fairly

We and CCOs will ensure the procurement of all goods, works, and services is ethical and transparent.

All staff and suppliers are expected to conduct themselves with the highest standards of honesty, fairness, and personal integrity.

It is critical that our staff and suppliers adhere to these standards, all applicable laws, and avoid all perceptions of conflict of interest and impropriety.

5. Deliver the best value for every dollar

We will use resources effectively, economically, and without waste, with due regard for the total costs and benefits of a procurement arrangement.

The principle of best value for every dollar does not necessarily mean selecting the lowest price response, but the best possible outcome for the total cost of ownership (or whole-of-life cost).

We encourage and maintain a diverse and competitive marketplace.

For more information see procurement strategy, sustainable framework and objectives.

6. Safety at work

In compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, we ensure that staff, contractors and our customers are not put at risk through all stages of the procurement work we do.
