Long Modified Bench

The Long Modified Bench sits in an interactable space in a Waitematā Plaza.
Artist: Jeppe Hein, 2011

Location: Waitematā Plaza

Materials: aluminium, metal and LED

Sponsor: commissioned by Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 2011. Generously supported by the Edmiston Trust, and courtesy of the artist and Johann König, Berlin and 303 Gallery, New York.

Originally sited on an L-shaped terrace at Auckland Art Gallery facing Albert Park, Long Modified Bench by artist Jeppe Hein was relocated to Waitematā Plaza in August 2015.

Not your normal bench, the work encourages curiosity, motivating people to interact with it. Benches have featured in Jeppe Hein's work since 2000 and have become increasingly more complex over time.

Long Modified Bench in Auckland, with its various rollercoaster-like forms, is the first of Hein's benches to include light.
