Heritage advice and consenting process

Help with resource consenting processes

Our heritage team has input into decision-making processes that affect heritage, such as resource consents and spatial planning.

This includes pre-application advice covering our built heritage, archaeological heritage and notable trees.

On average we input into over 1200 consenting processes per year.

How we provide support and advice

We also help owners of heritage properties and heritage focused community groups with practical support and advice including:

  • conservation, maintenance and management of heritage places
  • resource consent applications
  • assisting with our processes and funding applications.

If you want to conserve a historic heritage place and get the best possible outcome for your project, contact us:

Our support of heritage work in the community

A range of heritage grants and funding are available from us, including local board grants and regional grants, to support conservation of our heritage places within the community.

We have also funded significant projects, such as conservation works on St James Theatre on Queen Street in central Auckland.
