Alcohol Harm Minimisation Strategy

We are committed to working together to minimise alcohol-related harm in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Alcohol-related harm in our communities

Alcohol-related harm affects many dimensions of personal, whānau and community wellbeing.

We want Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland to be a safe, vibrant and healthy place free from alcohol-related harm.

To help us reach this aspiration, we are guided by a statement of commitment.

Kia mahi tahi te whakaiti i te kino ka hua i te waipiro / Work together to minimise the harm from alcohol.

Our long-term goals

Our statement of commitment guides our work towards four long-term harm minimisation goals:

  • Te Oranga: Communities are empowered to minimise alcohol-related harm.
  • Te Mauri Ora: Harmful demand for alcohol is minimised.
  • Te Hauora: Harmful sale and supply of alcohol is minimised.
  • Te Taiao: Communities are protected from alcohol-related harm.

What we do

Our work focuses on:

  • implementing regulatory controls
  • providing safe environments
  • enabling communities
  • strengthening community resilience.
