Health and beauty licence fees

​Schedule of fees and charges for health protection and hairdresser’s licences

The fees and charges included in this section apply to businesses providing a service that:

  • pierces the skin
  • risks breaking the skin
  • risks burning the skin.

Low risk (single or multiple basic service)

  • Exfoliation
  • Manicure and pedicure
  • Sun-beds
  • Hair removal.

High risk (single or multiple high risk service)

  • Acupuncture/Cupping/Moxibustion
  • Electrolysis
  • Derma rolling / Stamping
  • Laser treatment/pulsed light
  • Tattooing
  • Body piercing
  • Extractions
  • Red vein treatment
  • Traditional tool tattooing.

We will assess and register businesses as providing either a single basic service, multiple basic services, single high risk service or multiple high risk services.

Only one annual fee is needed for each licensee.

Health licence fees are non-refundable and are not pro-rated. 

Our tip

Under the Health and Hygiene Bylaw 2013, members of the New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists (Acupuncture NZ) or the New Zealand Acupuncture Standards Authority (NZASA) are exempt from our licensing and code of practice requirements.

Single basic service - A single service which is categorised as a risk of breaking or burning skin.$298
Single high risk service - A single service categorised as piercing the skin e.g. acupuncture, body piercing , derma rolling, electrolysis, extractions, red vein treatment, pulse light or laser treatment, stamping, tattooing or traditional tattooing.$485
Multiple basic services - More than one service which is categorised as a risk of breaking or burning skin.$400
Multiple high risk services - More than one service categorised as piercing the skin e.g. acupuncture, body piercing , derma rolling, electrolysis, extractions, red vein treatment, pulse light or laser treatment, stamping, tattooing/traditional tattooing.$485

Note: Where inspection or re-inspection is required, our normal hourly rates for regulatory services apply.

Notes to the table:

  1. All work performed by council officers. Position titles vary across the Auckland Council regulatory departments.
  2. Charges apply to environmental health and bylaw licensing services including health protection, hairdressers and the remainder of environmental health and licensing. Food Act actions are charged at an hourly rate of $155 (including GST).

 

Hairdresser business licence

The annual licensing fees for hairdresser business is the same across the region. All fees are annual and cover the cost of inspections. The annual fee is non-refundable and is not pro-rated.

There are no separate inspection fees (unless there is significant non-compliance).
