Progress on delivering the Ponsonby Road Plan

Since the Ponsonby Road Plan was adopted in 2014 the Waitematā Local Board has continued to support actions listed in the plan.

The board has contributed over $770,000 towards pedestrian improvements along Ponsonby Road aimed at creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

Improvements include:

  • raised speed tables
  • upgraded footpaths
  • installing new street furniture.

Most recently the Franklin Road cycleway was completed and opened to the public.

The Waitematā Local Board has committed to support the development of the 254 Ponsonby Road site identified in the plan.

The decision to develop the whole site as a civic space gained approval from the Environment and Community Committee in December 2018.

This project remains the board's key capital project for the 2018-2048 long-term plan.
