The Devonport-Takapuna Area Plan provides a framework to support growth and development in the local board area over the next 30 years.

Considerations of the Devonport-Takapuna Area Plan

The area plan considers:

  • opportunities for social and economic growth
  • infrastructure requirements
  • how to align with the overarching Auckland Plan 
  • funding requirements.

Key moves

The area plan:

  • supports the development of a 'greater Takapuna'
  • addresses transport needs, providing better public transport services
  • protects natural environment and heritage features
  • revitalises town centres and local centres
  • promotes Devonport-Takapuna as a lifestyle and visitor destination
  • recognises mana whenua and celebrates local Māori identity.

​Progress on delivering the Devonport-Takapuna Area Plan

Since the Devonport-Takapuna Area Plan was adopted in 2014 significant progress has been made including:

  • Lake Road upgrade project funding allocated
  • Fred Thomas Storage Tank and Pump Station upgrade project completed
  • Milford Centre Plan and Sunnynook Plan completed.

Of the 82 actions in the plan, six are complete, 45 are in progress, six are delayed and 21 are yet to commence.

Progress made in the last year on actions in the plan include:

  • Lake Road improvements upgrade project progressing to 'detailed business case' stage
  • in Takapuna, design of public space at Anzac Street development approved, Gasometer site car park and mixed-use development underway
  • Sunnynook Park upgrade completed and the new civic space next to the Sunnynook Community Centre
  • New B:HIVE business space facility at Smales Farm and BizDojo in Hurstmere Road supporting business development at incubation stage
  • Devonport ferry terminal upgrade progressing.
