Building consent

Fees for building consents

The cost of a building consent varies according to the complexity and dollar value of the project. When you submit your building consent application, you will be required to pay an initial deposit for processing and inspections.

Calculate the initial deposit fee now.

If you are paying by cheque, please make your cheque out to Auckland Council.

Full processing charges and a deposit covering the inspections will be calculated and are payable prior to issuing the building consent.

Included in this amount could be levies (if the value of your building project is $20,000 or more) and a damage deposit.

Certain applications may need to be referred to the Design Review Unit of the New Zealand Fire Service Commission. When this happens, additional fees will be included with the actual processing charges.

We may also refer some applications to external consultants for specialist advice and/or processing, in which case their cost will also be included with the processing charges.

If at any stage you cancel your building consent application, some fees may still apply.

What is a damage deposit and when is one required?

Damage deposits are used to pay for reinstatement of the road, footpath or berm if any damage has been caused by building work without being repaired. If the cost of repairing the damage is more than the amount of the damage deposit, we will invoice the balance to the customer or contractor. If no damage is caused, the full damage deposit is refunded after the code compliance certificate is issued.

When your building work is complete and Council have issued a code compliance certificate (CCC), your Damage Deposit can be refunded.

Please complete the following application form and provide the bank account details as requested to enable the payment to be made by direct credit.  Note: Refunds are provided to the receipted name unless written authorisation has been received to state otherwise from the receipted person or company.
