Manager training and qualifications

Managers of licensed premises need to understand and comply with New Zealand's alcohol laws.

Before applying for a Manager's certificate, you need to complete specific training and qualifications.

New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) unit standards

Managers are required to complete two unit standards from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority:

  • 4646 - Demonstrate knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012
  • 16705 - Demonstrate knowledge of host responsibility requirements as a duty manager of licensed premises

The unit standards complement the Licence Controller Qualification course and require around 20-30 hours of study.
