After a comprehensive search, Auckland Council has appointed Dean Kimpton as its chief operating officer.
Chief Executive Doug McKay says Dean is a passionate Aucklander who is excited to be playing a role in shaping the future of Auckland.
“Dean joins us from AECOM NZ where he was Managing Director.
“AECOM is a global leader in all aspects of infrastructure planning, design and delivery.
“Dean has a breadth of experience at the senior executive and governance levels, as well as in the regulatory and infrastructure business of council and its customers and suppliers.
“Just last year, Dean edited Auckland Connected*, an in-depth look at the opportunities and challenges we face as we deliver on our potential to be the world’s most liveable city.”
Dean Kimpton says: “Auckland is a great city. It's diverse, it has a wonderful natural environment and it's a city of opportunity and challenges.
“This is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of Auckland as one of the world’s most liveable cities, and making it a great place to live, work and play.”
He will start work in early August.
The Operations group makes up the largest division within Auckland Council, delivering frontline services to Aucklanders. It includes libraries, resource consents, parks, sports and recreation, community development, arts and culture, infrastructure and environmental services, building control and licensing and compliance services.
Mr McKay also thanked Ian Maxwell, who stepped in as acting chief operating officer last September. Ian returns to his role as Manager, Parks, Sports and Recreation.
