The Auckland Urban Design Panel
Good urban design is critical in enabling Auckland to become the world’s most liveable city.
As part of meeting your aspirations for a better built environment, an Auckland Urban Design Panel has been established. This Panel provides independent design review of significant projects, for both private and public developments across the region.
For those significant planning projects, it means you can get independent peer review advice from the Panel before you apply. Complex issues can be dealt with reducing time delays when resource consent applications are lodged.
It also means you get consistent advice during the consenting process and, where needed, co-ordination of council departments.
Meet the panel
The panel consists of leaders in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, property and planning, and includes representation from the development sector, academic sectors, and practitioners.

Triggers for review and the process
Council officers are responsible for determining whether an application should be reviewed by the Panel. The Terms of Reference document details the triggers for which projects are likely to be reviewed by the Panel, and outlines the process, including cost details.
Projects that go to Panel are usually at the pre-lodgement stage of the resource consent process.
