Proposed reserve revocation of reserves at Rukutai Street and Aotea Street, Ōrakei

Public notice date: 09 July 2025

Closing date and time: 10 August 2025, 5 p.m.

Auckland Council notifies under section 24(2)(b) of the Reserves Act 1977, a proposal to recommend to the Minister of Conservation (Minister) they revoke the reservation of reserve status of the land described in the Schedule at Rukutai Street and Aotea Street, Ōrakei.

Schedule

Area (subject to survey)

Description

120 m²

Lot 6 Deposited Plan 92924, Record of Title 1211845

179 m²

Lot 7 Deposited Plan 92925, Record of Title 1212543

The reason for the proposed revocation is that the reserves have little to no reserve values pursuant to the purposes in section 3 of the Reserves Act 1977.

Subject to the Minister’s decision, and following completion of all statutory processes, Auckland Council would dispose of land in the Schedule under the Local Government Act 2002 to the adjacent landowner Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust for amalgamation with their land. In return, the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust would grant public pedestrian right of way easements nearby through their land, ensuring no loss of public accessibility.

Please refer to the plan below, which shows the locations of the reserve land and proposed easement areas.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed revocation of the reserve status or provide comment on the above may do so in writing no later than 5pm on 10 August 2025 to the Chief Executive, Auckland Council, Private Bag 92300, Auckland 1142 Attention: Catherine Dearsley or email: landpropertyspecialists@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz Attention: Catherine Dearsley

Submissions maybe published in part or in full in public reports and information provided to Auckland Council is subject to the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
