Auckland Council Investments Limited (ACIL)

Te Kamupene Haumi Rawa a te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau Ltd

ACIL is a council-controlled organisation (CCO), whose role is to manage our major equity investments.

What ACIL does

ACIL manages the major equity investments that we hold, valued at approximately $3.0 billion.

We invest the return on these investments, in the form of dividends received by ACIL on our behalf, into activities that help to make Auckland the world's most liveable city.

ACIL holds the shares and manages major investment assets, on our behalf.

These are:

ACIL is accountable to us through its Statement of Intent (SOI), and reports to us quarterly on its progress in achieving its objectives.

ACIL distributes surplus income to us, in line with agreed levels. We determine how those funds will be spent.

ACIL's objectives

ACIL's objectives are to bring a strong commercial focus to the ownership and governance of these investment assets, and provide an efficient structure for the ownership of the assets.

ACIL aims to maximise the assets' contribution to the Auckland economy and provide substantial financial returns, sustainable in the long-term, to us.

ACIL will play a guiding role in influencing the strategic and long term direction of these companies. It will encourage these companies to adopt standards of governance and stakeholder responsiveness appropriate to their size and importance to the Auckland economy.

ACIL's key role is that of monitoring performance of these investments and using the influence and levers it has to encourage the companies to meet the goals in its Statement of Intent (SOI).

Statement of Intent (SOI)

Each year Auckland Council CCOs must complete an SOI as required under the Local Government Act 2002.

An SOI sets out the objectives, nature and scope of activities undertaken, and performance targets for each CCO.

This helps us achieve the objectives in our long-term plan and other strategic plans.

The Chief Executive of ACIL is John Crawford.

He is supported by a board comprising:
