About the Aotea / Great Barrier Plant Grant

Note: We are not running any grant rounds in the 2025/2026 financial year.

The Aotea / Great Barrier Plant Grant is a community partnership grant led by Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board. It was set up to help landowners and community groups plant waterways and wetlands.

We provide plants to support the protection, enhancement or restoration of:

streams
waterways
wetlands
riparian (land strips along natural waterways) and coastal margins.

Types of projects funded by the grant

We will assess your application and decide how much funding we can contribute.

Outcomes

The grant supports planting projects that:

protect, enhance and restore streams, wetlands, and waterways
use native plants along watercourses to reduce water contamination.

Funding priorities

We will prioritise applications that show how you would use the grant to achieve the planting projects listed under 'Outcomes'. You can read more about the priorities on SmartyGrants when the funding round opens.
