About the LFHW Fund

The LFHW Fund aims to help Auckland households reduce their food waste.

Food waste currently makes up around 34 per cent (by weight) of the average household rubbish bin or bag in Auckland. This will reduce when households compost or use the food scraps collection service.

We will allocate this grant to projects that focus on behaviour change around food waste and reducing food waste.

Broader projects around processing food waste or keeping it out of landfill should apply to the Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund.

Outcomes

Aucklanders:

are more aware of food wastage and how it affects our environment
are motivated to reduce food waste in their household
have practical ideas and knowledge on how to reduce household waste.

Funding priorities

We welcome projects that:

are creative, educational and focus on changing behaviour
help Aucklanders waste less food.

Projects should clearly explain what actions you will take and may focus on themes like:

how to plan meals and food so you do not buy too much
creative cooking or recipes that use leftovers or commonly wasted ingredients
best-practice food storage tips and demonstrations
how to raise awareness of the environmental and financial impacts of food waste
cultural food knowledge like indigenous or ethnic food practices that reduce food waste
how to improve household food literacy and confidence.
