Kārati Hākinakina ā-Rohe me ngā Kaupapa Mahi a te Rēhia Sport and Recreation Regional Programme Grant

This grant supports programmes that help Aucklanders live healthy and active lives. It focuses on improving access to sport and recreation, particularly for:

• children
• young people
• communities that face barriers to participation.

We will assess your application and decide how much funding we can contribute.

Our grants programme will support applications with outcomes that:

• provide affordable and accessible options for participation in informal physical activity, recreation and sport
• ensure our diverse communities enjoy healthy and active lifestyles
• enable our children and young people to develop skills to help them have lifelong participation in sport and recreation.

Purpose

The community sport sector is supported by a suite of strategic plans and frameworks which collectively guide investment decisions to help get Aucklanders more active.

Auckland Council’s investment through the Sport and Recreation Regional Programme Grant reflects both council objectives and sector aspirations. The core purpose of the programme grant is to support sport and recreation programmes of regional scale or significance.

We will assess applications for the grant on their alignment to and impact on:

• communities of greatest need
• strong benefit to Māori
• inactive communities
• high participation
• regional participation
• sustainable and low impact programmes
• strong capability
• strong strategic alignment
• network provision shortfall
• financial sustainability.

Eligibility criteria

Your organisation is eligible to apply for this grant if it is one of the following:

• a play, recreation and sport umbrella organisation A registered charity, trust, or incorporated society that agrees to receive and manage the grant on your behalf. with a region-wide mandate
• a regional federation, or grouping of local or sub-regional sports code organisations
• a sport and recreation provider or advocacy group
• an iwi or Māori organisation active in the sport and recreation sector.

What we will not fund

• Programmes outside of our region.
• Retrospective funding (programmes that have already been delivered).
• Physical works - for example, improvements or development of new or existing facilities and community buildings.
• Grants that are exclusively for staff wages.
• Public services that are the responsibility of central government - for example, core education and primary health care.
• Debt servicing or repayment.
• Legal expenses.
• Activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes.
• Medical expenses.
• Purchase of alcohol.

How we award grants

The grants we award will include a mix of:

• 'one-off’ and multi-year project grants for standalone initiatives
• multi-year strategic relationship funding.
