If you sell food at markets or events more than once a year, it is likely you need to register as a food business.
How to register a food stall

If your food stall is selling food to raise money and is in a public place, you need to Apply for a fundraising licence.
Fundraising
Fundraising stalls on private land
Food stalls that sell food to raise money for charitable, philanthropic or cultural purposes, for up to 20 occasions a year on private land, do not need to register under the Food Act 2014.
If you are fundraising on private land, make sure you have the owner's permission.
All food trucks and stalls at your market need to have food registration.
How to get street trading approval
If your food stall is to raise money and is in a public place, you need to Apply for a fundraising licence. You also need to get street trading approval.
Markets
If you run a regular market on private land, you may need a resource consent. Contact us on 09 301 0101 and ask for the planning helpdesk.
If you are organising a market in a public place, you will need a market licence. Visit Open a public market.
Event organisers
Event organisers must make sure all food trucks and stalls at their event are registered. You can request to see a copy of a food operator's Notice of Registration or search all registrations at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) website.

Request an inspection by food safety officers [h3]
You can request and pay for our food safety officers to inspect and monitor food operators at an event.
Email your request to foodsafetyofficer@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz at least four weeks before the event.
