About Windmill Park

There are two main areas to this park. One area has fenced hard courts for basketball, tennis and futsal. The other is a grassy open space for cricket and football.

Large trees surround the fields and there are lots of great spots for a picnic.

A path connects the petanque court near the Windmill Road entrance to the basketball half-court and barbecue area. This path is mostly accessible, though it is steep in some places.

Two buildings at the Windmill Road entrance to the park are home to Auckland Netball and Recreate NZ.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. Visit Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

Facilities at Windmill Park

Basketball half court

The basketball half court is close to the Windmill Road entrance.

Cricket and football

The grassy open space is marked for cricket in the summer and football in the winter. Find out how to book our sports facilities.

Limited mobility toilets

The closest accessible toilet is in Melville Park, attached to the Melville Cricket Pavilion. It is open from 7am to 9pm in the summer and 7am to 7pm in the winter.

Picnic area

A picnic table and seating are close to the Windmill Road entrance.

Community buildings

Two buildings on the park are leased by Auckland Netball and Recreate NZ. Visit the Auckland Netball website or Recreate NZ website to learn about these clubs.

Seating

There is some seating near the paths around the open space area.

Barbecue

There is one barbecue available next to the picnic area by the Windmill Road entrance.

Netball, tennis and futsal

The hard courts are fully fenced and accessible from Windmill Road. The courts are open from sunrise to sunset. They are available and free for the public to use when not in use by Auckland Netball, Tennis Auckland or Auckland Football (futsal). Tennis nets are available from late October (after Labour Weekend) to early April.

Toilets

The toilets are at the Windmill Road entrance, by the Auckland Netball building. There is a step at the entrance.

Activities at Windmill Park

Walking

There is an accessible path off Windmill Road leading to the basketball half court, barbecues and petanque area, but is steep in some places. Some of the paths around the park form part of the Kate Sheppard and Coast to Coast walkways.

Basketball

The half-court is by the fenced hard court area on the western side of the park.
