About Margaret Griffen Park

Margaret Griffen Park – a section of the raised boardwalk through the wetland connects to the playground and toilets.

This park is a well-used sports and recreation facility, featuring two bookable sports fields.

Andrew Griffen gifted the land as a recreation area for local youth, and named it after his late wife Margaret.

The Lynfield Youth and Leisure Centre, Lynfield Playcentre and Western Bay Sea Scouts are based at the northern end of park.

The park also has:

a looped trail around the sports fields and a boardwalk through a wetland area
a playground for ages three to eight
toilets
car parks
picnic tables and seating
a basketball half-court.

You need to know

Animals

Dogs must be on leash at all times in our parks unless otherwise stated in the dog walking section.

Alcohol

Alcohol is banned from some public places in Auckland. See Alcohol bans to find out the rules for each park and view ban maps.

Smokefree parks

Our parks are all smokefree.

Waste

Use bins where provided to dispose of your rubbish. If there are no bins take all rubbish and recycling with you when you leave.

Outdoor fires

It is illegal to light open fires in public areas in the Auckland region.

Facilities at Margaret Griffen Park

Bus stop

Bus stops are located on White Swan Road and Commodore Drive, though the paths to the park entrance are mostly steep.

Mobility parking

There are three accessible parks in the large car park off Griffen Park Road, close to the Lynfield Youth and Leisure Centre. Gates open 5am to 10pm daily.

Car park

Access the large car park from Griffen Park Road. There are plenty of spaces available, even on busy game days. Gates open 5am to 10pm daily.

Pedestrian access

Picnic area

There is a picnic table with seating next to the playground, or you can choose a nice spot to sit under the trees.

Limited mobility toilets

Accessible toilets are located inside the Lynfield Youth and Leisure Centre.

Located by the playground. Open 5am to 10pm daily.

Cricket, football and athletics

Two bookable sports fields accommodate cricket, football and athletics throughout the year. Find out how to book our sports facilities.

Seating

There is seating available near the playground, around the playing fields and along the paths.

Bike stands

Bike stands are located at the entrance to the Lynfield Youth and Leisure Centre.

Disabled access

This park is well connected with mostly accessible footpaths. However, some are steep in places and steep banks also prevent easy access to the playing fields.

Activities at Margaret Griffen Park

Walking

This park is well connected with mostly accessible paths, however some are steep or narrow in places. A looped trail around the sports fields offers a nice flat circuit for walker and joggers. You can also follow the boardwalk through the wetland area.
