Big Bay Bach is on the eastern side of the peninsula that encloses the Mahurangi Harbour.
It is in a clearing surrounded by cabbage trees and pōhutukawa, and is close to a beautiful sandy beach. The perfect spot to walk, kayak, boat or relax.
There is no vehicle access - you must have a water craft appropriate for coastal boating (boat, kayak, etc).
Main park gates are open from 6am to 9pm during daylight savings hours and 6am to 7pm during non-daylight saving hours.
Access option one: From the southern end of Big Bay it is a two minute walk from beach to bach.
Access option two: Boat to the southern end of Lagoon Bay (a shallow tidal bay) for a 15 minute walk up and over the ridge to the bach.
Kayaks or dinghies can be hand-launched from Sullivans Bay (approximately 2.2km), or at the boat ramp at Wenderholm Regional Park. Scott Landing, Martins Bay, and Opahi Bay also have boat trailer launching facilities.
Visit Mahurangi East Regional Park, Sadler Point for more access information.
