The Mana Whenua Kaitiaki Forum is a governance forum of the 19 hapū A number of whānau sharing descent from a common ancestor; kinship group, sub-tribe. and iwi A number of hapū (section of a tribe) related through a common ancestor. authorities of Tāmaki Makaurau.
The vision of the forum is for mana whenua Hapū and iwi with ancestral relationships to certain areas in Tāmaki Makaurau where they exercise customary authority. and mataawaka Māori who live in Auckland and are not in a mana whenua group. to be thriving and leading in Tāmaki Makaurau. Their mission is to partner on all collective decisions that shape Tāmaki Makaurau.
Their partnership approach is guided by five pou Post or support.:
- Governance: Te Tiriti partner.
- Culture and identity: Seen, heard, felt and celebrated.
- Natural environment: Te taiao The environment., te wai The water., te hau The wind. are thriving and cared for.
- Wellbeing: Whānau Extended family, family group, a familiar term of address to a number of people. Also the primary economic unit of traditional Māori society. are happy, healthy, thriving, and achieving.
- Economic: Economic force at the whānau, hapū and iwi levels.
