We are upgrading the stormwater network in the Blockhouse Bay area. The upgrade is part of the Western Isthmus Water Quality Improvement programme funded by the Water Quality Targeted Rate.
Watercare and our Healthy Waters department will work together to deliver the project.

Currently, there is a combined pipeline for stormwater and wastewater. The new pipeline will direct the stormwater and wastewater into separate pipelines. This will:
We will use part of the Blockhouse Bay Reserve car park (entrance off Rathlin Street) to store construction material during the upgrade.
We will work with Auckland Transport on a traffic management plan (TMP) to minimise disruptions. The TMP will keep road users and pedestrians safe during the upgrade.
Traffic in the area may be affected at times.
You can still access your property and use footpaths during the upgrade. Check signposts for closures or diversions.
Businesses can remain open.
There may be some construction noise, vibration and dust. We will monitor these to make sure they stay within the permitted limits.
Works start in early February and we expect them to be complete by November 2025.
The work will take place from 7am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Email blockhousebayhw@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz for more information about the upgrade.
We manage stormwater as it flows through public and private pipes, drains, streams and channels to reduce flooding and prevent the pollution of our waters.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining their stormwater pipes, drains and gutters. Auckland Council maintains public stormwater assets.
Through improvement projects on our stormwater network and waterways, we try to minimise flood risks, manage stormwater and prevent water contamination.
The upgrade will reduce flooding risks in the Te Atatū Peninsula area.
We're installing a new, larger stormwater pipeline from Imperial Place to Border Road, Esplanade Reserve in Henderson.
