The forested areas of the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park are now closed to protect our kauri trees and prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease. This means a large number of tracks that make up the the Hillary Trail are also closed.
We will be working hard to upgrade these tracks in order to reopen them.
You can still enjoy parts of the Hillary Trail
- Karekare to Pararaha valley along the coast
- Mercer Bay Loop
- Lake Wainamu and the complete section 7 from Te Henga.
A good overnight option is Muriwai to Te Henga (Bethells Beach), staying at
Wainamu Luxury Tents for the night.
