Where you can fly your drone or UAV

In public spaces

You can fly your drone or UAV in most parks and public spaces around Auckland without a permit.

Where you can't fly your drone

For more information about UAV use in Auckland parks, contact us on 09 301 0101.

On private property

If you want to fly over privately owned property, you need the property owner's permission.

The Civil Aviation Authority designates controlled airspace on some parts of Auckland. In these areas you can only fly UAVs below the height of a nearby tree or structure, no further than 100m away.

See a map showing controlled airspace on the Airshare website.

In uncontrolled airspace, you can only fly UAVs up to a height of 120m.

In conservation areas

To fly over conservation lands and waters, you need a concession or authorisation from the Department of Conservation.

Over the road

For guidelines on flying a drone over the road, see the Auckland Transport website.
