What non-residential properties are

Non-residential properties include:

• market gardens A small farm or garden where crops are grown to be sold directly to customers. and orchards
• small businesses
• farmland
• schools
• religious sites.

Rubbish services

Non-residential properties can request rubbish and recycling services.

For most of Auckland, we collect rubbish in council wheelie bins.

For the inner CBD, we collect rubbish in council pre-paid orange bags twice daily, once on Sundays.

Recycling services

We offer recycling services for volumes similar to household collections.

Auckland inner CBD

• For recycling, use clear council plastic bags.
• We collect cardboard separately. Flatten the cardboard and place it on the kerb next to your recycling. Make sure it is placed securely so it will not blow away.
• Recycling and cardboard are collected twice daily (once on Sundays).

Other areas

Put all your recycling in your council recycling bin. It will be collected every two weeks.

Cancel your rubbish or recycling bin service

Make an enquiry online and provide:

• the property address
• the property ratepayer’s name and contact details
• the bin number for the service you will cancel.

We recommend that you cancel your rubbish or recycling bin service in early June. When you pay for these services, you pay until the end of the rating year (30 June). If you cancel your service before June, we will not refund you for the months you paid for but did not use.

Inorganic collection services

We provide an inorganic collection service to small businesses once a year. This is for small businesses that pay the minimum base service waste charge in their rates.

We only collect things similar to household items. Visit What you can and cannot put out for inorganic collection for more information.

Food scraps and composting services

Food scraps services are not available for non-residential properties.

If your business produces large volumes of food and organic waste, we encourage you to book with a dedicated food waste collection service.
