Howick Local Board by-election

Following the resignation of a local board member, a by-election was held in the Botany Subdivision of the Howick Local Board. The by-election was a postal vote that concluded on Friday, 17 February 2017.

The winner has been declared as Mike Turinsky (Practical Not Political party) with 3510 votes.

Voting documents were be posted to all eligible voters from Thursday 26 January 2017.

Results were available that same afternoon and were accessible on this website

The Botany Subdivision contains approximately 37,000 registered voters.

Ballot boxes and special votes

Ballot boxes and special votes were available over the voting period at:

  • the Electoral Office, Independent Election Services Ltd, Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland
  • Botany Library, Level 1, Sunset Terrace, Botany Town Centre.

All completed voting documents had to be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official, by noon, Friday 17 February 2017.

Election signs could be erected on both private and public sites from Saturday 17 December 2016 and had to be removed by midnight Thursday 16 February 2017.

Electoral roll

Those eligible to vote are:

  • all resident voters
  • non-resident ratepayer voters whose names appear on the Preliminary Electoral Roll for the Howick Local Board - Botany Subdivision.

The roll was available for public inspection from Thursday 24 November 2016 to Thursday 22 December at the following locations:

  • the Electoral Office, Independent Election Services Ltd, Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland
  • Botany Library, Level 1, Sunset Terrace, Botany Town Centre.
