Local Board Plans

Local Board plans

The final local board plans for the communities of Auckland are now available.

These ground-breaking plans set out the aspirations and priorities for your community and guide the decisions that your local board will make on what happens in your area over the next three years and beyond.

The local boards are proud of the fresh, forward-looking direction these plans provide and are grateful to the thousands of Aucklanders who shared their thoughts and opinions on how the future of their communities should look.

The key themes for the plans include:

  • Supporting local community identity through social programmes, arts and culture, local events and supporting youth programmes.
  • Supporting the local economy through advocating for specialist business sectors, targeted training, and getting the infrastructure right to unlock growth, such as with next generation broadband.
  • Creating vibrant and economically strong town centres that reflect local character and stimulate community activity and involvement.
  • Improving connections by improving public transport, having more accessible transport hubs and enhancing walking and cycling routes.
  • Enhancing and protecting the natural environment.
  • Building on community and volunteer networks.
  • Enhancing lifestyle through enhancing community facilities and events; improving sports fields; protecting and valuing heritage and ensuring good and well-connected open spaces.
  • Provision of new and improved community facilities (such as libraries, parks, swimming pools and youth centres), particularly where there has been underinvestment or where facilities have not kept up with population growth.
  • Protecting rural areas from sprawl and preserving what makes them special.

With the direction now set, the local boards will be working to advance the aspirations, projects and programmes outlined in the plans.
