If you want to install a solar or heat pump water heating system, you will need to apply for building consent.
You need a building consent to check that your solar water heating system meets various clauses of the Building Code, including:
- weathertightness
- potable water, and
- structural safety.
See Apply for a building consent to install a solar or heat pump water heating device.
You may not need a building consent for certain work, like repair, maintenance, re-positioning or replacing of water heaters, as it might be exempt from a building consent.
