About the Regional Historic Heritage Grant
The aim of this programme is to encourage best practice in caring for our regional heritage sites and places through community involvement.
Types of projects funded by the grant
- Heritage
Grant value
$0 - $50,000
Outcomes
This grants programme supports projects that aim to achieve at least one of the following outcomes:
- regulations and policies in the Auckland Unitary Plan and Auckland District Plan (HGI) are supported by incentives to protect and conserve significant historic heritage places
- Auckland Council, mana whenua, community organisations and property owners work together to support kaitiakitanga and stewardship of historic heritage
- Aucklanders see where the council has invested in historic heritage
- private and community investment in heritage conservation.
Funding priorities
We welcome applications that prioritise:
- conservation of regionally significant historic heritage places, including within an historic area
- conservation of at-risk historic heritage places, including initiatives that address the impacts of climate change
- supporting kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of Māori cultural heritage places.
We will also consider applications for these lower priorities:
- heritage interpretation such as for brochures and signs
- completed projects or activities (retrospective funding).

Grant amounts
We may allocate amounts larger than $50,000 in exceptional circumstances.

We organise workshops to:
- help you prepare your application
- help you complete the forms
- answer any questions you may have.
