About the path

A popular coastal walking route along Hobson Bay, connecting Remuera with Ōrākei Bay village.

Start at the end of Victoria Avenue. Or do it in reverse starting at Ōrākei Road next to the Ōrākei Bay Village complex, or via the access path from Martyn Wilson Fields.

The path is a mixture of sealed / metal track and boardwalk, and is suitable for prams. It's fairly flat, but there is one steep section to be aware of at the bottom of Victoria Avenue.

From Victoria Avenue, the walkway winds through the mangroves and overhanging pōhutukawa trees. You'll pass some tranquil sandy beaches to reach Shore Road.

Check out the artwork by local school children including mosaic covered poles, paintings and iron animal sculptures. There are two elevated lookout points to capture the view across Hobson Bay.

Continue around 100 metres along Shore Road. From there, the path continues as a boardwalk running next to Ōrākei Road, to reach a viewing platform at Ōrākei Basin. Look out for the Māori carving near the Ōrākei Bay village entry. Here you'll also find some great local cafes and restaurants.

If you want to continue exploring, join up with the path looping around Ōrākei Basin, an ancient volcanic crater.
