About the path

A 500m long cycle trail in Sanders Reserve, designed especially for children under 10.

The beginners' path offers small achievable skills challenges for kids to grow their confidence. There's seating for parents or caregivers to watch and enjoy great views over the upper Waitematā Harbour.

As kids become more confident cyclists, they can progress to one of the more challenging mountain bike trails in Sanders Reserve. There are over 22km of bike trails to explore.

The kids can also check out the horse and cart themed slide in the playground.

Another gem (not on the Beginners Path) is the Faraway Tree, an old macrocarpa which has been carved to depict an enchanting visual story about the history of the park. It features depictions of animal heads, waka, fish and significant local people including former land owner George Sanders. It even has a trunk cave big enough for adults to crawl into.

Opening hours:

Winter from 6am to 6.30pm.
