About the path

A lovely walk through Tōtara Park, along the fringe of a Tōtara forest.

Enter Tōtara Park from the Wairere Road entrance, and head left until you find the gates which mark the path start. You can also walk the path in the opposite direction, starting at the gravel car park off Everglade Drive.

The flat, wide path threads through large Tōtara tree, and crosses the Puhinui Creek.

Tōtara Park is home to a variety of bird habitats. Amongst the native bush you may hear or see pigeon (kererū), shining cuckoo (pīpīwharauroa), morepork (ruru), fantail (pīwakawaka), grey warbler (riroriro), tūī and kākā.

There's a fantastic off-leash dog area with wide expanses of green space for dogs to run around.

After you walk back the starting point, there's a range of fun activities to keep you busy. You won't want to leave Tōtara Park!

Check out the two great kids playgrounds with adventure equipment, flying fox and a large tunnel slide. Or head straight to the Tōtara Park Pool (open December to March) to splash around in the outdoor lap/leisure pool and toddlers pool with friends and whānau.

Public toilets are located close to the start of the route, and near the Tōtara Park Pool.
