We have te Tiriti o Waitangi and legislative responsibilities to Māori across many of our functions and services. Our strategic and advisory entities help us to meet these responsibilities.
- Ngā Mātārae, our Māori Outcomes Directorate, provides strategic direction and measures how well we achieve outcomes for Māori and assists Māori with regulatory processes.
- Houkura (formerly the Independent Māori Statutory Board) helps us make decisions about issues of significance for mana whenua Hapū and iwi with ancestral relationships to certain areas in Tāmaki Makaurau where they exercise customary authority. and mataawaka Māori who live in Auckland and are not in a mana whenua group..
- Tāmaki Makaurau Mana Whenua Forum provides advice on national and regional issues.
We also have co-governance and co-management entities that make decisions on sites of significance, such as certain maunga and reserves.
