Character of the Upper Harbour Local Board area
Upper Harbour is a rapidly growing area.
The Upper Harbour Local Board area combines two areas previously under the jurisdiction of two separate councils. It is an area undergoing significant change.
In its southern reaches the redevelopment of the Hobsonville airbase is home to a primary and secondary school, business opportunities and a ferry terminal.
The development of State Highway (SH) 18 has led to significant work on planning of the Hobsonville corridor and the Hobsonville village area.
Amenities in the Upper Harbour Local Board area
The area contains the Pāremoremo Scenic Reserve, the largest bush reserve on the North Shore and a site of ecological significance.
This reserve is a critical part of the North West Wildlink which links the Hauraki Gulf islands and the Waitakere Ranges together.
The area also has:
- Albany Stadium pool and leisure centre
- over 200 local parks and sports fields
- Albany Village Library.
Upper Harbour is also home to three council-owned community centres:
- Meadowood Community House in Unsworth Heights
- Headquarters building and Sunderland Lounge in Hobsonville Point
- Albany Community Hub.
