Piwakawaka offers a eco-friendly camping experience next to the Puhoi River within Wenderholm Regional Park. This Eco Structure provides better shelter and accessibility, and is suited for year-round camping without the need to supply your own tent.
Piwakawaka can accommodate four people. It features a comfortable queen-sized bed and two single bunks.
You need to supply your own chilly bin, pots and pans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, towels, tea towels, bedding and pillows.

Price changes from 1 July 2025
From 1 July 2025, we will change the prices for bookable spaces in our regional parks.
This includes:
- baches
- lodges
- camping sites
- certified self-contained (CSC) parking areas (daytime and overnight)
- bookable picnic sites.
Bookings made before 1 July 2025
If you make a booking before 1 July 2025, you will pay the current price, even if your booking is for a stay after 1 July.
Amend an existing booking
If you amend the date or length of your stay for an existing booking on or after 1 July 2025, you will be charged at the new rate.

Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi track closed in June and July 2025
We are closing the track for maintenance. Please check signs in the park for the exact dates and follow all safety instructions. You must stay behind safety barriers at all times.
The Couldrey House and Puhoi tracks will stay open and provide an alternative routes.
Part of Perimeter Track closed until 17 October 2025
The tramping grade section from the junction of the Couldrey House Track to Kokoru Bay is closed for the winter due to poor ground conditions. You can use the Puhoi track (dark blue marker posts) as an alternate route.

Directions and access
Main park gates are open from 6am to 9pm during daylight savings hours and 6am to 7pm during non-daylight saving hours.
Go through the main park automatic entrance gate, travel approx 570 meters to the site entrance. Follow the signs to the Piwakawaka access gate on the your left.
Piwakawaka and the park is not accessible after park closing times. Combination code will not open the main park gate, or access to Schischka Campground.

Bedrooms
- Main room: one queen bed
- Side room: two single bunk beds (i.e. sleeps 2 people). Top bunk is not recommended for under 9 year olds.
You need to supply bed linen, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, pillows, towels, food, mosquito repellent and personal items.

Rules
Animals
Dogs, other animals and pets are prohibited at all times.
Cleaning
You must keep the surrounding site clean and tidy during your stay, and when you leave.To protect against COVID-19 please clean all surfaces on your arrival and departure. Cleaning equipment is supplied.
Rubbish
There are wheelie bins for general rubbish on the opposite side of the grassed area. There is no recycling bin so please take items home with you.
Overnight vehicles and tents
Maximum of two vehicles per tent.
You may not stay in your own tent, purpose-built van, campermatic, caravan, 5th wheeler, campervan or small bus.
Fires
Fires prohibited at all times. The gas barbecue and bottle must remain outside the tent at all times.
