Local elections

Local elections for the Auckland region are held every three years by postal vote. These elections determine who will become the mayor, councillors and local board members to make decisions on behalf of all Aucklanders.

Prepare for local elections 2025

Now is the time to consider being a candidate in the upcoming local elections. To learn more, visit How to become a candidate in the local elections.

Check your enrolment details to ensure you will get your voting papers at the correct address. If you are enrolled to vote, you should get your voting papers between Tuesday 9 and Monday 22 September 2025.

Voting opens from Tuesday 9 September and closes at 12 noon on Saturday 11 October 2025. To learn more, visit Information for voters.
