Request an exemption from needing a building consent

When you could get an exemption
If the building work you want to do does need a building consent, but it is minor or low risk, we can consider granting you an exemption from needing a building consent.
To be considered for an exemption, the building work must not have started.
To grant an exemption, we must be satisfied that:
- the building work will be carried out in accordance with the Building Code
- it is unlikely to endanger people or any building on the proposed site or neighbouring properties.
You will need to provide the same level of detail as you would when applying for a building consent, so we can make a full assessment and a decision.
