The annual budget decision-making process

The annual budget sets the activities, services and investments for the following year, and details how we might pay for them. It is published every year. Every three years, a 10-year budget is published in place of the annual budget.

The mayoral proposal

The draft mayoral proposal was the first step in developing our annual budget. This outlined the issues Mayor Wayne Brown thought were most important for Auckland.

The official mayoral proposal was published not long after.

Political consideration and decision making

In the months that followed, our Governing Body discussed the mayoral proposal and developed the proposed annual budget.

Public consultation

We asked Aucklanders to have their say on the Annual Budget 2023/2024.

Consultation is now closed.

Your feedback is being analysed and put into a report for the Governing Body to read.

Feedback

Read the consultation feedback.

Deliberations

The Governing Body will consider your feedback, deliberate content and make decisions for the final Annual Budget 2023/2024.

Finalisation and adoption of the budget

Our Governing Body will approve the annual budget in late June 2023.

The Annual Budget 2023/2024 will be operational from 1 July 2023, the first day of the new financial year.
