The annual budget decision-making process

The annual budget sets the activities, services and investments for the following year, and details how we might pay for them. It is published every year. Every three years, a 10-year budget is published in place of the annual budget.

The mayoral proposal

The draft mayoral proposal is the first step in developing our annual budget. This outlines the issues Mayor Wayne Brown thinks are most important for Auckland.

Political consideration and decision making

In the following months, our Governing Body will discuss the mayoral proposal and develop the proposed annual budget.

Public consultation

Consultation on this annual budget will happen on the AK Have Your Say website in March 2023.

Deliberations

After consultation has ended, our Governing Body will consider your feedback, deliberate content and make decisions for the final Annual Budget 2023/2024.

Finalisation and adoption of the budget

Our Governing Body will approve the annual budget in late June 2023.

The Annual Budget 2023/2024 will be operational from 1 July 2023, the first day of the new financial year.
