The 10-year Budget 2021-2031 decision-making process

The 10-year budget sets the activities, services and investments for the next 10 years, and details how we might pay for them. We publish a new 10-year budget, also known as our long-term plan, every three years. We publish an annual budget in the other years.

About the 10-year Budget 2021-2031 decision-making process

The 10-year Budget consultation ran from 22 February to 22 March 2021 and in total the council received 19,965 pieces of feedback. This included approximately 80 per cent received digitally, 912 people provided feedback at council-led events and 78 pieces received through social media.

We heard from 417 organisations including 26 presentations at the regional stakeholders’ event; 18 mana whenua organisations; and 18 mataawaka organisations.

See the Ak Have Your Say website to read summarised feedback reports and submissions.

The Mayoral Proposal

The Mayoral Proposal is the first step in developing our 10-year budget. When the mayor released the proposal on 1 December 2020, he outlined the issues he thinks are most important for Auckland.

Political consideration and decision making

In the following months, the Governing Body discussed the Mayoral Proposal and developed the proposed 10-year budget.

Public consultation

Consultation on the budget proposals was open between 22 February and 22 March 2021 on the Ak Have Your Say website.

The Governing Body considered feedback, deliberate content and made decisions for the final 10-year Budget 2021-2031.

Finalisation and adoption

The Governing Body approved the final 10-year Budget 2021-2031 on 29 June 2021.

The 10-year Budget 2021-2031 is operational from 1 July 2021, the first day of the financial year.
