Environmental management and regulation

What the budget will deliver

  • Building and maintaining the stormwater network.
  • Improving the quality of water in streams and harbours.
  • Waste collection, including recycling and reducing waste to landfill.
  • Protecting biodiversity.
  • Undertaking regulatory activities such as resource and building consents, dog control, food licensing and swimming pool inspections.

How we measure success

  • Ensure no more than 1 in 1000 properties connected to our stormwater system is flooded per year.
  • Reduce domestic kerbside refuse by 22 per cent to 110kg per year per person.
  • Establish 8ha of new forest or wetland habitats per year.
  • Process 100 per cent of building and non-notified resource consents within 20 working days.
  • By 2025 ensure 100 per cent of Aucklanders are covered by community response plans in case of a civil defence emergency.
