Sports field capacity development

What this development programme does

We are developing, upgrading and renewing sports fields across the Auckland region.

This development programme will address:

  • the shortage in sports field capacity, particularly for training purposes
  • the uneven spread of sports fields across the region.

The programme will include:

  • installing artificial turfs and sand carpet fields
  • renewing existing fields
  • renewing lighting
  • renewing draining
  • new field development.

Current work

Council turf advisors are working with regional sports organisations, clubs, groups and partners.

We will also review the programme annually, confirming the following year's projects at the same time. This will allow us the flexibility to deal with:

  • changes in demand for fields
  • geotechnical issues
  • soil contamination
  • new turf technologies
  • new land becoming available.
