Get your own geotechnical report

You can organise and pay for your own geotechnical report to determine a risk category for your property.

You should know

The council will not reimburse you for the costs you incur if you choose to organise your own geotechnical report.

We need to see a geotechnical report of your property before we can determine its risk category.

Once you Register online for a storm-affected property risk assessment, we can arrange the geotechnical report for you, or you can organise and pay for your own report through a registered geotechnical engineer.

The geotechnical report checks the condition and stability of your land. We use this information to provide you with a confirmed risk category for your property.

Find a suitable geotechnical engineer

If you want to organise your own geotechnical report you need to use either:

  • a Chartered Professional Engineer who specialises in geotechnical engineering, or
  • a Professional Engineering Geologist.

For help finding a suitable engineer, see Find a professional on the New Zealand Geotechnical Society website.

Forms you need to complete

If you organise and pay for your own geotechnical engineer and report, you need to:

  • complete the Letter of engagement and give this to your geotechnical engineer before they perform the assessment
  • send us the geotechnical engineer report template once it is completed by your geotechnical engineer.

Email propertycategory@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz with the completed report.
