Rubbish services

Rubbish collection services vary in different areas.

Rodney

We do not collect rubbish from commercial properties.

Contact a private waste service for bins, bags and collection for commercial properties.

North Shore

We collect rubbish from council rubbish bins that are green with red lids, or blue with yellow lids. The bins must have pre-paid bin tags attached.

From 3 March 2025, the North Shore area will begin rates-funded rubbish bin collections. To learn more, visit Rates-funded rubbish changes.

Waitākere

We collect rubbish in rates-funded rubbish bins that are green with red lids, or blue with yellow lids.

Auckland City

We collect rubbish in rates-funded wheelie bins with red lids.

For inner CBD, we collect rubbish in council pre-paid orange bags twice daily, once on Sundays.

Manukau

Commercial properties in residential areas can request rubbish and recycling services.

Commercial properties in non-residential areas must contact a private waste service provider for bins and collections.

Franklin

We collect rubbish in council pre-paid orange bags weekly.

From 1 July 2025, the Franklin collection area will begin rates-funded rubbish bin collections. Properties in rural areas will have the option to use rates-funded bags.

Recycling services

Recycling services for household quantities are available in Auckland except for Manukau commercial areas.

Auckland Inner CBD

For recycling, use clear council plastic bags.
We collect cardboard separately. Flatten the cardboard and place on the kerb next to your recycling. Make sure it is placed securely so it will not blow away.
Recycling and cardboard are collected twice daily (once on Sundays).

Other areas

The recycling service is provided in 'co-mingled' wheelie bins (plastic, glass, cans, paper and cardboard in the same bin) and collected once every two weeks.

Inorganic collection services

We provide an inorganic collection service to small businesses once a year. This is for small businesses that pay the minimum base service waste charge in their rates.

We only collect domestic items, not commercial inorganic waste.
